Using Praat, a program that linguists use to analyze speech, I recorded the sound of my own voice uttering certain phonemes and translated them into spectrographic image data. I chose particular phonemes that correspond to some of the first letters children learn when first learning how to read. Using a 3D printer, I rendered these spectrograms into topographic relief sculptures that, like braille, convey information texturally as opposed to graphically.
